SERVICES:

Shelby County Environmental Services is responsible for the daily operations, construction, and maintenance of the Shelby County Regional Landfill located on State Highway 70 (4154 Hwy 70) between Calera and Columbiana.

The Shelby County Environmental Services manages the MS4 Storm Water Program for the following communities

Unincorporated Shelby County City of Helena
City of Alabaster Indian Springs Village
City of Pelham Town of Moody

The Shelby County Environmental Services also provides the following services for Shelby County:

  • Manages franchise for garbage collection in unincorporated Shelby County.
  • Accepts applications and issues landfill user permits (at no charge to the customer).
  • Responds and investigates possible contamination sites for soil, water, and air.
  • Manages the Emergency Management Agency (Shelby County Division).
  • Assists ADEM (Alabama Department of Environmental Management) in the enforcement of burn laws and regulations.

RELEVANCE TO THE PUBLIC:

Provides a regional landfill to accept trash, garbage and debris Monday through Saturday for commercial waste haulers and the general public.  Oversees garbage collection in all unincorporated areas of Shelby County. Assists ADEM in the assurance of a safe and healthy environment for the citizens of Shelby County.

*Includes one dollar ($1.00) ADEM fee
Other Landfill Rates

Shelby County Environmental Services does not have any jurisdiction over perk testing, septic tank requirements, septic tank permits, illegal trash dump sites, or food service inspection.  These are inspected and regulated by the Shelby County Division of the State Health Department located in Pelham, Alabama (205/620-1650).

Shelby County Environmental Services does not have any jurisdiction over trash and garbage pick-up service in incorporated districts (cities and townships).

Shelby County does not provide a removal service for tree limbs, large trash items, etc. We do provide a landfill disposal site for your convenience.
