COVID-19 continues to spread very rapidly throughout the State. Shelby County has been lowered to a “High Risk” area by ADPH due to the expanding infection rate and other risk factors(Click for Graphic). ADPH recommendations while under the Orange-High Risk includes social distancing, avoid groups of 20 or more, wear face coverings, and limit out-of-town travel.
COVID-19 infection is usually spread from person to person through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. These droplets can land in the mouth or be inhaled into the lungs, especially when people are in close contact such as six feet or closer. Facial coverings are designed to cover the nose and mouth of a wearer to impede the spread of saliva or other fluids during speaking, coughing, sneezing, or other intentional or involuntary actions. Facial coverings and social distancing help prevent the spread of COVID-19 by protecting those who work or interact in public places from potential exposure.
The Shelby County Commission strongly encourages following ADPH guidelines to help protect yourself and others by wearing face coverings around people from other households when it is necessary to leave the home and maintaining social distancing of six (6) or more feet between persons not from the same household to be in the best interest of public health in Shelby County.
